Two Detentions Following London Heathrow ‘Pepper Spray’ Attack

The assault resulted in the partial closure of the Central Terminal Area tunnel and the Terminal 3 car park.

Two more people are now in custody related to a theft at Heathrow Airport where 21 people sustained injuries by what is thought to be an irritant spray, according to police.

A 24-year-old man, was taken into custody in the Lambeth area on suspicion of theft and assault and a 23-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit robbery. Both individuals are still being held, authorities confirmed.

These detentions follow an investigation into an attack at the multi-storey car park at Heathrow's Terminal 3 on Sunday. Before the attack, a pair of female travelers had stolen from them their suitcases after getting out of a parking garage elevator.

A toddler aged three was one of the injured in the event. A total of five individuals went to hospital for treatment and were later discharged.

Police arrested a man in his thirties on suspicion of robbery and assault close to the location. He has since been released pending further inquiries as the investigation proceeds.

Police were called at about 08:10 GMT after reports came in regarding a number of people injured by a noxious substance thought to be pepper spray.

The assault - which authorities stated was a standalone incident and not considered terrorism - caused delays to rail services and the temporary shutdown of the main airport tunnel and the T3 car park briefly.
